What Would Liz Do?

LIZ LEMON

We’re very fortunate – we, the young women of today. We are lucky enough to be provided with an endless supply of extraordinary female heroes whose footsteps we want to follow. I am constantly seeking guidance in the documentaries, interviews, Instagram accounts, TV shows and films of my idols. I find I turn to Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington, and Tina Fey just as much as I turn to Elle Woods, Frances Ha(lladay) and Carrie Bradshaw. While flesh ‘n blood figures offer you proof of a real-life trajectory to follow, fictional characters can illuminate life’s mysteries just as well. We see ourselves in these characters – we see them face issues within their daily lives, and we watch them overcome their challenges with creativity, grace and humour. One such character who will always hold a special place in my heart, who shares my traits (sense of humour/self-deprecation) and flaws (lack of grace/affinity for Cheetos), is Liz Lemon of 30 Rock

Liz Lemon – 30-something, TV comedy writer, queen of wit – but most of all, an individual who is always true to who she is, critics be damned. Sure, Liz can be seen as a little socially awkward, with hermit-like tendencies, and a knack for eating too much too quickly, but underneath that layer of cheese dust-coated Snuggie fleece, there’s a smart, sassy lady who doesn’t put up with anybody’s crap – and for that – I love her. If you’re looking for a spirit sister to guide you through this roller coaster we call life, turn to Liz, and ask yourself: W.W.L.L.D ??

I have the night off, How should I spend my time?

Doi! Work on your night cheese, friend!

I want to get ahead at work, but don’t want to step on anyone’s toes. What’s your advice Lizard?

You didn’t come here to make friends, you came here to be number one!

blerg! I’ve been called to Jury Duty! Help me lemon!

Just let them know you a) can read thoughts or b) are a hologram – that tends to freak them out and get you dismissed immediately.

Liz, sometimes I Just can’t find the right words to express myself! what do I do?

I find spewing non-sensical, exasperated sounds gets my point across just fine.

Lately I don’t feel like my friends have been there for me, who can I turn to instead?

Well, there’s always food. As long as you keep your fridge stocked, food is always there for you and will never let you down.

Yo lemon! I’m looking to make some new life resolutions, any tips?

The above sentiment always works for me.

Lately I’ve been feeling beaten down, and have lost my spirit to keep trying so hard. what do I do, Liz?

Despite what people may think of you, persevere, you can do whatever you set your mind to!
