Paris, Je T’aime

LANVIN

Lanvin Look 1 / Look 2 / Look 3 / Look 4 / Look 5

Paris Fashion Week has begun, and I’m wishing more than ever I was there. I’ve only been to Paris once, and honestly, I don’t feel like I did it right. It was essentially a 48 hour blitzkrieg of my friends and I trying to see as much as we could, and spending at least 12 hours a day on our feet (I was foolish and wore gladiator sandals that provided ZERO support to my flat-footed soles and my hooves have never quite healed), running around the metro from place to place. We weren’t able to embrace the laissez-faire attitude, sit with baguettes and wine, and just people watch. Since leaving, I’ve known that one day I MUST go back and see Paris properly.

The Paris collections thus far have been very beautiful, very eclectic, and very chic. For now I’ll just discuss a few that caught my eye.

Time Out!

usedbooks

WARNING: The Rêve Head will not be posting until the end of this week. The explanation being that I will be buried under my books until Thursday with 4 midterms in a row.

If I make it to the end of the week I can promise you these posts: a lead up to the Oscars and my first thoughts of Paris Fashion Week (which I have been looking forward to for months, particularly because I am BEYOND excited to see Nicolas Ghesquière’s first collection for Louis Vuitton!!!).

Enjoy your week dreamers, and send me white light for the impending doom I’m about to embark on.

Hot Child in the Sochi

1023

I’ve always loved the Winter Olympics. As a Canadian these are the sports I loved to watch and participate in growing up, and this holds true today.

My interest in snowboarding started after watching Ross Rebagliati compete in Nagano. I even wrote a grade 4 haiku about it at the time. I’m in awe of all the athletes who compete, and am truly blown away by their skills. And nothing is more exciting or fun than watching Team Canada compete in a gold medal hockey game (or any game for that matter). I was up and at ’em yesterday morning at 6:50 a.m., Tims in one hand, caesar in the other. It may be the most Canadian thing I’ve ever done (other than the constant utterances of “sorry”).

Yes, obviously, the talent, speed, and strength displayed by our Olympians is jaw-dropping, but another thing that keeps me viewing, is our extremely handsome team. Let me name a few of my faves… Continue reading

MFW: The Clothing of My People

GUCCCCI

Gucci Look 1 / Look 2 / Look 3 / Look 4 / Look 5

Fashion “week” has moved on to the land of my ancestors, the Old Country as it were, Italy! Now, my family is not from Milan, they’re from Sulmona, meaning I must distantly be related to Ovid (this explains my way with words…HA!). I’m a very proud Italian: I love me some spaghetti, am a fan of opera, and am a loyal follower of the country’s many amazing designers.

Milan Fashion Week thus far has offered many beautiful collections for Fall 2014, but I think I’ll just focus on a handful of my favourites.

Coveted Cut

blunt cutKylie / Noomi / Zanna

In terms of haircuts, I’ve always been mildly adventurous. No, I have never dyed my locks (unless spray painting it black to be Wednesday Addams counts), nor have I ever had a perm (I would probably look like a strange Italian poodle), but I’ve had my fair share of bold looks.

In grade 4, after being so deeply inspired by Posh Spice, I chopped my hair into the ever popular Girl Power Bob. I seriously thought I was the 10 year old spitting image of Victoria herself. In grade 6, just as my hair had grown long enough to be twisted into a bun, I decided to shock my classmates after Christmas break by styling my ‘do into a super short Winona Ryder inspired pixie cut. I think the boys were far too dumbfounded to tease me about it, which was a bonus. Due to that haircut taking a few years (including a prolonged pig-tail with bra-strap hairband phase) to grow out, I played it pretty safe through high school with Mary-Kate influenced cuts. My undergrad years proved to be a little more exciting, and I sported a sleek bob for the majority of those years. After growing that bob out (due to being an unemployed post-grad), I now have super long, super straight, pretty nondescript hair. But the urge to throw caution to the wind and make the cut is returning. Continue reading

Meadham Kirchhoff Look 1 / Look 2 / Look 3 / Look 4 / Look 5

Ahhhhh a sweet vacation from school, sadly this means I have had my MacBook closed for the past 3 days…but upon starting it up and rushing to style.com to see the latest offerings from London Fashion Week, I realized I had been greatly missing out on a feast for the eyes. All through New York Fashion Week I just kept thinking “IS IT TIME FOR PARIS YET?!” and kind of forgot to anticipate London’s week…what a foolish lack of thought. Thus far London Fashion Week has shown amazing and truly unique collections that have me thinking outside of my typical monochromatic-minimalist comfort zone. Continue reading

Marc Jacobs Look 1 / Look 2 / Look 3 / Look 4 / Look 5 / Look 6 / Look 7

Not that I’ve ever actually been to fashion week, but from what I hear, the Marc Jacobs show is one that everyone most looks forward to. I can understand why. The sets of his shows are elaborate and take the viewer to another world, while the clothes themselves are always beautiful and interesting. I just finished watching the live stream of his Fall 2014 collection, and I feel as though I’ve been hypnotized. Continue reading

Marchesa Look 1 / Look 2 / Look 3 / Look 4 / Look 5

Another day in New York, and another slew of collections showing loyal fashion followers what the upcoming Fall 2014 season is going to look like. The day wasn’t quite as exciting as I had hoped, but there were still some shows that really sparked my interest.

To begin my dissection of February 12th, let’s start with Marchesa.
