Asphalt, people. Bare and beautiful asphalt. I have been encountering more and more spots of bare asphalt in the city – and let me tell you – I’ve never been more pleased to see such a glorious sight as this grey bitumen. While the dust from the heaps of salt used this winter has only just begun to settle, there’s a new hint of hope in the air. Hope that soon all the remaining traces of winter will disappear and the sun will shine again. In anticipation of the thaw, I thought I’d share some of my favourite *spring thangs* that I can’t wait to bust out.
My dear friend Carolyn Fielding recently blew all our minds and opened up THE loveliest vintage shop of all time – OUTPOST Vintage & Thrift. I had the pleasure of attending the grand opening in Guelph a couple weeks ago, and let me just say, no man item got left behind. I fell in love with all the perfect pieces Miss Fielding so lovingly curated, and came home with a bag full of beautiful and unique goodies! My new knit, fringe tank and mini black backpack will be perfect for the many festivals I have my sights set on. Definitely check out OUTPOST’s Instagram to stay apprised of the constant stream of vintage treasures.
My birthday recently passed and along with the empty bottles of bubbly, and the scent of vanilla and matches, some great gifts were left lingering. In particular, a membership to the Art Gallery of Ontario. I had specifically asked for this gift in the hopes of filling my spring and summer with many culture and beauty filled trips to the gallery. Plus it’s right down the street from me – so there’s really no excuse not to go. If you’re in the city, be sure to check out the Basquiat exhibit before May 10th!
I don’t like to admit it – but sometimes I’m a little late to the bandwagon. Despite loving the look of the trendy sneakers that walked the streets last spring/summer, it has taken me until now to actually purchase a pair I can call my own. I’ve always been a Converse girl myself, but I thought I’d mix up my casual b&w footwear this season with these sleek Nike Roshe Run’s. I’m so looking forward to the day that I’m satisfied the asphalt sidewalks are clean enough to sport these trendy kicks.
While I must confess that I actually adored this frigid and snowy winter, the more blue skies I see, the more excited I am for the warm weather to arrive. Until then, I see no harm in continuing to shop for brighter days.
