Dream Tunez: Bestival Edition

IMG_2653

My tastes in music are on the diverse side. I can appreciate a song by Donna Summer the same way I appreciate my favourite song by FKA Twigs the same way I appreciate Crystal Castles the same way I love Tame Impala (and the list could continue for at least another 40GB worth of music). I’m a little all over the place, but it makes for great listening, and even better live music experiences. The Lana Del Rey concert encouraged amazing swaying, and Father John Misty inspired some truly exceptional knee-slapping and George Clooney-worthy chicken pecking, but my favourite type of dancing is more akin to a) a sorceress casting spells, b) a person who is possessed, or c) a physical representation of the pulse of the music. These forms of dance can only be found at a specific breed of festival, and this weekend I will be provided two days worth of opportunity to bust out such moves – all thanks to Bestival.

Not unlike Topshop, Pimm’s, and the growing acceptance of thick eyebrows (thanks Cara Delevingne!), Bestival is a glorious import from the U.K. Boasting an eclectic line-up of beloved and of-the-moment artists, a unique atmosphere, and a ‘wondrous world of discovery and adventure’ I’m pretty damn excited to be attending. What drew me to the festival was the inclusion of both Flume and Dan Snaith (aka. Caribou aka. Daphni) on the list of appearances. I’ve experienced both artists live in the past (Flume in a festival setting, Caribou during a more intimate DJ-set) and both were incredible. While they’re the two I’m most excited to see, the line-up is quite impressive with acts from Florence & The Machine, Wavves, Tei Shi, Banks, Owen Pallett, Born Ruffians, Flosstradamus, Sbtrkt, Jamie XX…let’s just say the list is extensive, and oh-so enticing. Here’s a playlist to get you equally prepped and pumped for this weekend’s island festivities.

May these songs help you cultivate your own unique, signature dance moves! and remember, be mindful of others’ personal space! Festival Etiquette must not be forgotten – even if you are turnt UP.
