Love Letter to Netflix

IMG_2753

It’s official baby. We made it. Still going strong after 4 years. Man, time flies when you’re having fun, doesn’t it? Apart from family, friends, and my love affair with ice cream sandwiches – my relationship with Netflix has officially become my longest standing significant relationship. And thank god I have a sense of humour about life, because if I didn’t, this realization may cause me to fill a bathtub with a nice cab sauv, a long straw, and drown my sorrows. But instead, I want to mark the occasion with a sentimental love letter, to my dear sweet bae, Netflix. Continue reading

Best of: Kirsten Dunst

KIKI DUNST

This Monday I enjoyed a wonderful movie night filled with laughs, pizza, and guacamole. Our movie pick for the evening was the oh-so-funny Nixon comedy, Dick. Not only did it remind me of my love for films that focus on the Watergate scandal, but it also reminded me of how truly laugh-your-ass-off funny Kirsten Dunst is! I’ve been a huge fan of Kiki (part of a nickname c/o Perez Hilton, that always stuck with me) since..forever! Many of her films are those I count among my favourites, and I find myself watching them over and over again, year after year. Ms. Dunst is rad on all counts – super stylish, cool posse of friends including Sofia Coppola and Rodarte’s Mulleavy sisters, and a wildly impressive filmography. As it was her birthday yesterday, let’s take a chronological look at Kirsten Dunst’s best films. Continue reading

Here’s Oscar!

OSCARS 2014

After weeks of being a couch potato and committing wholeheartedly to watching a very long list of films – OSCAR NIGHT HAS ARRRRRRIVED! It’s always been a fun ritual of mine that I most likely take too seriously. As a young, blossoming cinephile I would stay up well past my bedtime to watch as the  shiny gold statues were doled out to glamorous celebrities that I probably didn’t recognize. Now, I carefully plan the categories I’m interested in, learn as much as I can about the films and their actors, and form my own *humble* opinions about who deserves the mighty Academy nod of approval. Film Guide to Your Hibernation

WINTER MOVIESCongratulations! You’ve almost made it through the bleak month of January. Sure your pores have frozen and your spirit has taken a few hits, but you’re almost in the clear. The January Blues can take strong hold of your psyche, and this cold as a witches teat weather does not offer any extra incentive to get out of bed. It would be best if those of us most afflicted were offered a ‘get out of January free’ card that allowed us the peace of mind to keep cozy under the covers, watch a ton of movies, and just plain hibernate.

Interests Include Frocks and Flicks

BEST THIS WEEK

This week, the second full week of the year 2015, seemed fairly unremarkable. In fact, it was rather dull. We’re embarking on that portion of the winter season where the days begin to blend into one another – one shade of grey bleeding more grey into the next, until we’re drowning in a pool of grey and pleading with Jack Frost to give us just a few moments of thaw. It is on these dull days that I am especially thankful for people like Monsieur Galliano and Oscar to brighten and inspire. Continue reading

Film Guide to Your Quarter-Life Crisis and Other Confessions

QUARTER-LIFE-CRISIS

We’ve all been well trained (via pop culture) to spot the tell-tale signs of a mid-life crisis:

  • newly purchased, brightly coloured, flashy sports car
  • equally novel, brightly coloured, flashy clothing (often unbuttoned to reveal said mid-lifer’s chest)
  • mayhaps some thoughtfully purchased nips and tucks

But what, pray tell, are the signs of a quarter-life crisis?? Tune into my new and fabulous reality show to find out! Continue reading

Fantasy Crush League

CRUSHIN_edited-1

I am by no means professing to know a damn thing about football or any sports for that matter, but I have come to understand that people like to partake in ‘Fantasy Leagues‘ when it comes to their favourite recreational activities. I actually don’t really know what this means, but I’m going to assume you get to put together a group of your choosing, picking your favourite athletes to make up this fantasy team. As a non-sportsfan I still want to partake, so I’ve decided to put together a team of my own ‘Fantasy Crush League’ consisting of some scrumptious fictional characters from my favourite tv shows and movies. Enjoy! Continue reading
