Met Gala Superlatives

MET GALA

Of all the red carpets, in all the world, this is the one you wanna walk. Here the worlds of celebrity – art – fashion all collide in one beautifully sophisticated soirée. Each year the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute puts together a breathtaking exhibit and a subsequently fabulous gala. This year’s theme was China: Through the Looking Glass. The effort put into curating this visually explosive conversation between East and West was the greatest ever undertaken by the institute. Thankfully the attendees of this year’s gala took the sartorial challenge of dressing for such an ambitious event with as much zeal as the event’s organizers. The list of exquisite gowns, and ornate accessories is staggering – only a thorough collection of superlatives can assist in keeping track of them all. Continue reading

Top it Off (The Lesser Known T.Swift Hit)

EMANNUELLE ALT

I am a person who relies heavily on style icons. Aspirational dressing I like to call it. When selecting a style icon, the admiration for said individual must rely upon more than just their wardrobe. These fabulous people should not only possess the clothes we fantasize about, but also the careers, interests, perspectives and little black books that dreams are made of. I have a long list of style icons, but who sits at the top? Without hesitation, editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, Emmanuelle Alt. Her effortlessly chic approach to style is definitely a worthwhile ambition. While I drool over her beautiful collection of coats, her enviable skinny jeans, and her sophisticated stilettos – it’s her fantastic hats that I covet most of all. Continue reading

The Killin’-It List

KYLIELook 1 / Look 2 / Look 3 / Look 4 / Look 5 / Look 6

Confession: I am a total Kardashian Junkie. As a beloved ‘lady’ once said, SO WHAT? WHO CARES?! People love to hate on them, love to point out how they are just a manifestation of the troubled frame of mind our generation is in. I could care less. The show provides me with mindless entertainment in a world where my brain is constantly overwhelmed with external stressors, where the family’s candor cracks me up and honestly, makes me cry on the regular. So that’s my dirty little secret: I’m a Kardashian fan. Big. Frickin’. Whoop. Continue reading

One Man’s Trash

In the movie Zoolander they highlight a new fashion craze entitled Derelicte, which showcased garments that consisted of mundane objects and garbage that you may find scattered on the streets. This type of ‘anti-fashion’ movement isn’t just a hilarious punchline from a much beloved movie from 2001, but one that actually has some bearing on trends today. Continue reading

Objet D’Art

George Condo + Kim

With spring fast (FASTER PLEASE) approaching, one must take pause and ruminate on what interesting trends might soon flood the stylish sidewalks of Metropolitan cities. I have been obsessing over the french phrase ‘objet d’art’ for almost a year now. I don’t exactly know why, but I just like the concept of pieces of interest, whether it be on a shelf, next to your stack of stylish coffee-table-toppers, or in the case of recent trends, on your designer accessories.

Closet Raiders Wishlist

CLOSET

The blogosphere is ripe with infinite options to keep you entertained and distracted all day. There’s the good (The Man Repeller, The Rêve Head, The Click In Closet) and then there are the blogs that I’m sure are just fine, but not on my radar (How to Rewire Your Toaster, The Dog’s Breakfast, Pix of Wooden Stix)(Yes, I made these up). One of my very favourite blogs to peruse by far is The Coveteur. Continue reading
