Film Guide to Your Hibernation

WINTER MOVIESCongratulations! You’ve almost made it through the bleak month of January. Sure your pores have frozen and your spirit has taken a few hits, but you’re almost in the clear. The January Blues can take strong hold of your psyche, and this cold as a witches teat weather does not offer any extra incentive to get out of bed. It would be best if those of us most afflicted were offered a ‘get out of January free’ card that allowed us the peace of mind to keep cozy under the covers, watch a ton of movies, and just plain hibernate.

Monsters Inc. SS15

GARY BASEMAN copy

When you think of Coach, you tend to think of an endless sea of monogrammed C’s in all sorts of colours and styles. Personally I never thought of Coach beyond its leathergoods – that was – until Stuart Vevers took over as the executive creative director and breathed new life into the classic brand. Interests Include Frocks and Flicks

BEST THIS WEEK

This week, the second full week of the year 2015, seemed fairly unremarkable. In fact, it was rather dull. We’re embarking on that portion of the winter season where the days begin to blend into one another – one shade of grey bleeding more grey into the next, until we’re drowning in a pool of grey and pleading with Jack Frost to give us just a few moments of thaw. It is on these dull days that I am especially thankful for people like Monsieur Galliano and Oscar to brighten and inspire. Continue reading

If Anybody Asks – We’re Just Stargazing

IMG_2262

A new year has begun and with it we are given as fresh a slate as we’re ever going to get. The remaining line of dust that we’ve spent 2014 trying to sweep up, can now be swept under the rug so to speak. Forget those nagging neuroses and the to-do items that were never crossed off your list from the past year. You’ve been granted a fresh, gleaming strand of another 365 days to have a go at!  Continue reading

Designer Deathmatch: Chanel vs. Victoria’s Secret Edition

KARL'S ANGELS

Yesterday two Colosseum worthy fashion events took place – one in London, England; the other Salzberg, Austria. Now, I hate to pit two stylistically inclined contenders against one another, but the match up is just too perfect to ignore. In the picturesque hills of Salzberg, where visions of Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer come to mind, Karl Lagerfeld presented his latest Métiers d’Art show – and it was absolutely exquisite. Meanwhile, in bustling (emphasis on bust) London, Victoria’s Secret put on their annual extravaganza ripe with glitter, feathers, and ab envy that will last us until next year. The two collections could not be more different: one’s demure, the other flashy, but both are equally highly anticipated events, and surprisingly – the design inspiration was rather similar. The Winter Face Slap

WINTER FACE SLAP

The winter season is upon us – more specifically – on my face. It is this changing of the seasons that wreaks the most havoc on our poor, unsuspecting skin. You wake up, you see a fresh blanket of marshmallow snow on the lawn, and then you have the bright idea to venture into the winter wonderland to treat yourself to a delectably festive peppermint latté. Bad idea my friend, bad idea. Not only will you return home with a stomach ache from your sickly sweet beverage (womp womp), but your face is now ablaze from the thrashings of that harsh winter wind. It is this time of year that you must rise up against the frosty temperatures, beauty products in hand, and once again become the master of your own face. Resist the winter face slap! Film Guide to Your Quarter-Life Crisis and Other Confessions

QUARTER-LIFE-CRISIS

We’ve all been well trained (via pop culture) to spot the tell-tale signs of a mid-life crisis:

  • newly purchased, brightly coloured, flashy sports car
  • equally novel, brightly coloured, flashy clothing (often unbuttoned to reveal said mid-lifer’s chest)
  • mayhaps some thoughtfully purchased nips and tucks

But what, pray tell, are the signs of a quarter-life crisis?? Tune into my new and fabulous reality show to find out! Continue reading

Love Letter to L’Halloween

HALLOWEEN PARTY

As I sit at home, on All Hallows’s Eve, comforted by the low, humming buzz of my own excitement for the glorious occasion set to arrive tonight, I realize – it is due time I write an official love letter to Halloween. A grade 3, prepared at home, pencil scrawled on a torn piece of paper – love letter.  Continue reading

Apps I Wish Existed

DREAM-APPS

Back in the day, if you required a certain tool, gizmo, or piece of information you would have had to just hope that it was hiding among your lipsticks in your purse, somewhere nearby, or in the depths of your mind. Nowadays we obviously have the luxury of turning to our handy, dandy smartphones to do this work for us. Need a flashlight? There’s an app for that. Need to know where the nearest cronut shop is? There’s an app for that. Need to get laid? Don’t you worry, there’s an app for that too. We’ve certainly come to rely upon the apps in our lives to make things easier, but there are a few yet-to-be-developed apps that could really help me out. Continue reading

Take Me Out To The Met Ball

MET 2013_edited-1

Dree / Nicole / Miley / Sienna

There are certain events every year that cause you to wake up early the following day in order to troll the interweb seeking the dazzling photos of the previous night’s delightful fashions. The Golden Globes, Coachella, and the Oscars provide such excitement for those of us who worship at the altar of style. But for true fashionistas who know their stuff, The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala OR put more simply, the Met Ball, is the crown jewel of such events. Continue reading
